Edith Eleanor Voyles, 95, of Pendleton, formerly of Yorktown, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.
Edith was born December 28, 1921 in Yorktown, Indiana to the late Espy and Lila (Whitehair) Luce. She graduated from Daleville High School in 1939. She worked for Ball Stores for many years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Pikes Peak Christian Church, Jolly Workers Home-Ec Club, and various card clubs. Edith enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and studying genealogy.
Edith is survived by three children, Sandy Longmore (husband Butch), Beverly Pershing (husband Mike), and Bob Voyles (wife Brenda); a daughter-in-law, Ruth Voyles; sister, Lois Luce; 18 grandchildren, Tammy Carey, Mary Anne Wattleworth, Dean Longmore, Michael Pershing, Darren Longmore, Brad Voyles, Julie Davis, DeDra Waters, Jeffrey Longmore, Hunter Voyles, Samantha Voyles, AJ Longmore, Mercedes Wright, Michael Longmore, Daniel Longmore, Mario Longmore, Robby Longmore, and Jason Longmore; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Allan Voyles; her son, Gene Voyles; daughter, Nancy Baldwin and two brothers, Darrell Luce and Marion Luce.
A funeral service to celebrate Edith's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 7, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St., Yorktown, Indiana. Pastor Andrew Hodges will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunderland Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, July 6, 2017 and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
