James R. Crook, 95, of Yorktown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Lynd Place Senior Living in Muncie, IN.
Jim was born on December 17, 1922 in Martinsville to the late Abraham H. and Mary L. (Smith) Crook. Jim graduated from Martinsville High School. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII. He retired in 1982 from Norfolk Western Railroad, formerly Nickel Plate Railroad, after 40 years. Jim was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed sports, bowling, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Janet Crook of Yorktown and Cathy Rumler of Huntington; three grandchildren, Duane Brooks (wife Jaime) of Kapolei, HI, James Brooks of Chesterfield, and Audrey Wayman (husband Nate) of Marion; seven great-grandchildren, Brannon, Rilynn, Isaiah, Zoey, Macey, Micah, and Vincent; a great-great-grandson, Milo; a sister-in-law, Jean Merrill of Lecanto, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Rose L. (Crose) Crook; and three sisters, Wilma Galbraith, Helen Chandler, and Irene McClure.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown, Indiana. Pastor Nathanael Wayman will officiate. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 8, 2018 and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.
