Jimmy P. Voiles, 81, of Yorktown, passed away on Thursday, March 30, in The Woodlands, Muncie, after a long illness.

Mr. Voiles was born on February 26, 1942, to Elmer and Marie Voiles in Jamestown, Tennessee, and lived in Muncie for the remainder of his life. He served in the army briefly and later worked for General Motors as a millwright for 36 years. He also served as a committeeman at large and Health and Safety Representative for UAW Local 499. He was also a commander of American Legion Post 327 for approximately 18 years.

His parents, Elmer and Marie Voiles, his wife Jama Sue, and son Mark Voiles preceded him in death. He is survived by his three sisters, Sue Chambers, Patsy Taylor (Husband: Jerry), and Judy Chambers; his daughter, Melissa Tighe (husband: Thomas); his two sons, Sam, and Mike Voiles, along with grandchildren Conner and Jama Tighe, Kyla Norris, and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His family and friends will miss him dearly.

We want to thank all the nurses and caregivers at The Woodlands, along with IU hospice care, who took such good care of him until the end.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel. Burial will take place in Hawk Cemetery, north of Yorktown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Muncie Mission and the Yorktown American Legion.
