Kathryn R. Somers passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Morrison Woods Health Campus. She was born November 21, 1921, in Chattanooga, Ohio, the daughter of William and Lavina Affolder. Kathryn married Dave Somers on January 6, 1940. They were married for seventy two years. Dave and Kathryn raised six children, Barbara Webb (Max), Nancy Somers of Chicago, Illinois, Paul Somers (Lana) of Jacksonville, Florida, Janie Barnes (Mike), Jeff Somers (Kim), and Kathy Hutton (Dale) of Muncie, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael Webb (Carmen), Aaron Webb, Jennifer DeGale (James), Nicole Gullion, Lindsay Somers, Abby Schroeder (Andrew), Ali Barnes, Elliott Somers (Tonya), Emily Somers, Kyle Hutton (Lindzi), Nick Hutton (Heather), and Lacey Dudley (Colin). She has fourteen great-grandchildren. Kathryn is survived by her brother, Rolland Affolder, Indianapolis, Indiana, her sister-in-law, Eva Jean Penhorwood of Lima Ohio, sister-in-law, Alice Affolder of Decatur, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. Kathryn was a past member of Eastern Star, Tri Kappa Sorority, Yorktown Mother's Club and was a precinct committee chairman. Kathryn was such a whiz at fixing things, was a champion pie maker, loved doing ceramics, and especially loved traveling the world with Dave. She will always be remembered for her many kindnesses to others and will be deeply missed by her family. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Dave; her daughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Max; her siblings, Pauline Anderson and Vernon Affolder, and her parents. The family would like to thank the kind staff of Morrison Woods and Compassus Hospice for the nurturing care of our mother. A celebration of Kathryn's life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Gant Funeral Home in Yorktown, Indiana. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Glenn Greiner will lead the memorial service. Burial will follow the service at Hawk's Cemetery.
