Phyllis J. Smith, 84, of Muncie, went to be with her Heavenly father on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Phyllis was born on December 26, 1938, in Scottsburg, Indiana to the late Earnest Leo and Lois Jane Johns. She attended Mount Summit High School. Phyllis married Curtis Smith on May 1, 1955. She worked as a delicatessen and deli manager at Ross Supermarket for 25 years before her retirement in 2000. Phyllis was a member of the North Delaware Baptist Church and had attended Old Town Hill Church. Phyllis enjoyed painting, word games, reading and singing to her grandchildren, and cooking for her family.

Phyllis is survived by four children, Jeff Smith, Cathy Miller, Tim Smith (wife Jennifer), and Danny Smith; six grandchildren, Christie Warrell (Andy Foster), Joshua Miller (wife Laura), Stephanie Benson (husband Ben), Abby Gebo (husband Colten), Sarah Smith, and Jesse Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Kaylynn Benson, Emily Benson, Payton Miller, Joseph Foster, Easton Foster, Carlee Miller, Adlee Benson, and Levi Gebo; three siblings, Carol Jones, Dale Johns, and Gayle Norrick (husband Gene); and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Curtis Smith; two children, David Smith and Diana Dillard; grandson, Shiloh Dillard; and sister, Barbara Antle.

A funeral service to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 24, 2023, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Her son, Pastor Tim Smith, will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Eaton.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2023, and also one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
