Robert Eugene "Gene" Larsen Sr., 91, of Gaston, passed away on July 1, 2022, at Muncie Estates in Muncie.

Gene was born on September 17, 1930, to the late Lars and Emily Larsen. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Gene worked as a machine operator at Delco Remy for many years before his retirement. He had also worked at HMA Labs. Gene was a member of the North Delaware Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, woodworking, traveling, and camping.

Gene is survived by two sons, Robert Larsen Jr. (wife Karen) and Tim Larsen (wife Marianne) five grandchildren, Holly Kappes (partner Christina), Jennifer Streyckmans (husband Rob), Melissa Man (husband Chris), Heidi Larson (husband Mark), and Brett Larsen; eight great-grandchildren, Carter Kappes, Kegan Smith (husband Cody), Kortland Bullard, Kylar and Kaleb Streyckmans, and Kelsey, Kya, and Cooper Mann; a brother, Howard Larsen (wife Louise); and several great-great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Bernice Larsen; and several brothers and sisters.

A funeral service to celebrate Gene's life will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston. Pastor Jim Marlow will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Thursday at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel.
