Robert W. Mercer  91 went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday afternoon at his residence.

Bob was born in Bloomington, IN June 28th, 1923 to his parents; Wayne E. and Irene (Newton) Mercer. Graduated from Bloomington High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army 8th Air Force, 1943-1945 and earning the rank of Sgt. He was also Sgt. with the Indiana State Police, from 1949 and retiring in 1969. Bob worked one year at the Marsh warehouse in Yorktown. In 1971, he  became Chief Deputy for Sheriff James P. Carey.  1979 he joins the staff of the Delaware County Prosecuting attorney.  Bob worked two years for the Delaware County Assessor office in 1979 and five years, with Gant Funeral Homes. He was a member of the Yorktown United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men's group and proud member of the Yorktown Lions Club for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Virginia  "Ginny" (Whitman) Mercer. One son, Michael Mercer, companion Jane Welch, Two daughters, Beverly LaVelle, husband-Pat and Cynthia Johnson, husband - Mike. One brother, Don Mercer. Grandchildren; Randy Mercer, Shane Mercer, wife-Rhonda, Shannon Mercer, wife-Gaylynn, Jenifer LaVelle-Moore, husband-Jason, Brooke Crowder, husband-Justin, Ginny Peden, husband-Joey and Blake Johnson, fiancé'-Natalie. Step-grandchildren, Josh Johnson and Kristi Johnson. Great grandchildren, Betsy and Mathew Mercer, Isabel. Ella and Grace Moore and Molly Crowder.  Many nieces and nephews and special family member, Jody Mercer. Several Step-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Robert's Life will be  Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Yorktown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cindy Osgood.

Interment will follow in the Yorktown Cemetery with Military Honors by the United States Army, the Veterans of Delaware County and Indiana State Police.

Friends may call Monday at the Yorktown United Methodist, Yorktown chapel from 4;00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
