Ruby May "Sis" Nichols, 79, of Yorktown, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2015 at the Waters of Yorktown.
Ruby was born May 1, 1935 to William Donald and Opal M. Hartley. She attended Muncie schools. She married Bobby Nichols on September 27, 1952. Ruby was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cooking, and crossword puzzles. She attended Cammack United Methodist Church. She was a past trustee for the church and a member of the church's women's group along with being in the choir. She was also a past member of the Eagles Lodge.
Ruby will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Bobby Nichols; two children, Teresa Hofherr (husband David) of Yorktown and David Nichols of Ft. Wayne; four grandchildren, Aaron Hofherr (wife Ricci), Greg Hofherr (wife Wendy), Brian Nichols, and Amanda Nichols; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Grant, and Evan Hofherr and Kiara Nichols; five siblings, Joe Hartley (wife Geneva), Bonita Posey (husband Arvel), Patricia Lehman (husband Kenny), Wanda Sue Bean (husband Bill), and Janet Reffitt (husband Vernon); a daughter-in-law, Karla Nichols Myrtue; and several step-brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her father, William Donald Hartley; her mother, Opal M. Lane; a granddaughter, Sally Nichols; and two brothers, Gene and Robert Hartley.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruby's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 2, 2015, at Cammack United Methodist Church, 1901 N. Cammack St. Muncie, IN. Pastors Woody and Emily Sears will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery, Yorktown, IN.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Gant Funeral Home, 2215 S. Broadway St., Yorktown, IN, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Ruby to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice Advantage, or the Cammack United Methodist Church.
