Ruth (Cordle)
Goodpaster
Oct 7, 1940 — Oct 8, 2024
Yorktown
Ruth (Cordle) Goodpaster, 84, a lifelong resident of Yorktown, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2024, with her family by her side.
A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community, having worked in the Yorktown school system for several years. She touched the lives of those who knew her. A devoted mother and grandmother, her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially those who called her "Grandma Ruthie".
Ruth was an avid sports enthusiast. She never missed her children's sporting events or grandchildren's events. If Ruth was in the crowd, you knew it, and so did the umpires / referees.
Ruth enjoyed cheering for many Indiana basketball teams, but her favorite was the IU Hoosiers. Some years were good, some years not so good, but she never missed watching a game - she was a loyal fan. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Troy Goodpaster (Kim Harper), Jamie Goodpaster (wife Rhonda), and Melissa Swackhamer (Chad Gates); five grandchildren, LeAndra Goodpaster (fiancé' Cory Macbeth), Daulton Goodpaster, Jensen Goodpaster, Madelyne Swackhamer, and Elijah Swackhamer; three great-grandsons, Carter, Colton, and Cohen Macbeth; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ms. Goodpaster was predeceased by her mother, Mary Cordle; father, Robert Cordle; and sister, Foxean Potter.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Gant Funeral Homes - Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Cremation will follow services with Ruth's ashes to be buried in Yorktown Overmire Cemetery at a later date.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
The family would like to thank the staff at Yorktown Manor as well as the nurses at Heart to Heart Hospice for providing such loving care to Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to The Alzheimer's Association at (Alz.org).
