Our Dad, Steven Duane Davis passed away Sunday August 23, peacefully and quietly after a brief illness.

Dad was born in Muncie, Indiana on July 5, 1949, to Wayne Francis Davis and Phyllis Ann Martin. He was the first born and big brother to Denise Ann and Marsha Lynn. Dad first had eyes for our mom Sue Ellen Monroe, in the 7th grade at Yorktown High School. They courted through their teen years, graduated in the same YHS “Class of 67” and tied the knot on September 4th, 1970. Dad and Mom have been the very embodiment of devotion and commitment to each other for nearly 56 years of marriage, working hard to raise a family while enduring inevitable trials of sickness, health, loss, gain, grief and struggle. They raised us 4 kids: Ashley Davis, Nick Davis, Jaime Davis McKinley and Jenelle Davis Hartley (John) with unconditional love and unwavering support. They have been pillars of strength through and through, and we are so very grateful.

Dad labored for GM Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. During that same 30 years and beyond he was often working a second job detailing cars or doing carpentry work, either for one of his kids, on his own home or with local business owners. If he wasn’t working he was fishing, gardening, riding his tractor or perhaps playing video games. He also loved to get his belly full at family dinners and then head back home to rest in his own version of peace and quiet with his beloved cat Hannah.

Dad is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, our mom, Sue Ellen (Monroe), us 4 kids and his beautiful Grandkids: Nate Davis, Piper Davis, Devon Barella, Shelby Davis, Emma Davis, Taylor McKinley, Samuel McKinley, Seth McKinley, Quinn Phipps (Kayleb) and Rafe Hartley; Great Grands: Aniyah Rodriguez, Aaren Kelly, Gianni Kelly and his very special buddy Sullivan Davis (son of Griffin Davis and Victoria Cook); Sister Marsha Barlow and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He has been preceded by his parents Wayne and Phyllis Davis, sister Denise Bevelhimer and grandson Griffin Brand Davis.

The Davis family would like to extend our Gratitude to all of our family and friends that have reached out with love and support and to the amazing and compassionate staff at IU Methodist Neurology and Redcrest Hospice for their exceptional care given to our Dad in his final days.

A funeral service to celebrate Steven’s life will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Miller Family Funeral Homes, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Randy Davis will officiate. Cremation will follow services.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2026, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Miller Family Funeral Homes.
