Vernon Wayne Goodpaster, 86, of Yorktown, passed away at his home on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Vern was born on December 26, 1935, in Upland, Indiana to the late Lee and Geneva (Deeren) Goodpaster. He was a graduate of Yorktown High School. Vern was a United States Army Veteran serving in the 2nd Armored Division in Germany during the Korean War. Vern worked in the packaging industry for over 40 years. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1997 as Maintenance Supervisor. Vern was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, restoring cars, and helping others.

Vern is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary (Sallee) Goodpaster; three children, Tim Goodpaster (wife Tes) of Cleveland, OH, Scott Goodpaster (wife Kim) of Bluffton, and Amy Morgan (husband Mike) of Daleville; seven grandchildren, Justin Goodpaster, Erin Davis, Trina Richardson, Cassie Anthony, Ben Goodpaster, Taylor Lopez, and Haley Coats; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Bratton (husband Phil) of Yorktown; brother, Bill Goodpaster (wife Paula) of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Goodpaster; two sisters; six brothers; and his dog O'Rielly.

A funeral service to celebrate Vern's life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Denny Helton and Pastor Marcia Goodpaster Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow in Yorktown Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
